The Elementary Art Room measured 47 feet by 30 feet.
The Advanced Art Room measured 31 feet by 28 feet Classes in Art were commenced in 1885 by the Heywood Co-operative Society and were continued under extraordinary difficulties until the end of the session 1890-1, when they were taken over by the Technical Instruction Committee and continued in the Queen Street Day School until the Technical School was opened in the session 1894-5. During the whole of this period, and until a few days before his death in December, 1906, the Art Classes and afterwards the School of Art, were under the headship of Mr Ernest Fitton, Art Master, in memory of whom a tablet was placed in the school. < Back |
